Locksmith Advertising
One of the most important aspects of your business, as a Locksmith, is effective advertising. Perhaps more than any other trade, your potential customers will be unaware of your existence until the worst happens (for them!) and they lock themselves out. At that point, they are going to reach for either (a) A good old-fashioned directory or, increasingly likely (b) Go online.
If your advertising elsewhere is sorted, you need to look at what the internet can do for your business. One aspect of effective locksmith advertising is to register your business on trade directories. These range from the traditional names like yell and thompson down through industry specific directories to smaller local directories.
Let's not beat around the bush, very few of these directories will drive real business your way. Most of the free directories will sell your contact details on, so be prepared for a mass of marketing calls. Moreover, very few will let you add a link to your own website unless you sign up for a 'premium' listing, ie PAID listing. Inbound links are vitally important to your website, the more you have from relevant sites the higher the search engines will rank your own.
You should check that any directory that will list your web address allows the search engines to follow the link. Suprisingly, some of the paid directories make their links 'nofollow', which means the link to your site is worthless as a link building exercise. Smile, Touchlocal and many others will gladly charge you for a premium listing, only to 'nofollow' your link.
Really, you should look for a directory with 'dofollow' links, that won't bury you at the bottom of a huge list of competitors, and that already shows up well in search engine results.
